Jury Coordinator
Be part of the administration of justice! The nation’s largest federal trial court is seeking applicants to join the judicial services team. This is a unique opportunity for experienced individuals who may be considering an eventual career in the law. The Jury Coordinator is responsible for one of the most critical aspects of the federal court process and service to the public. Qualified applicants will have excellent oral communication skills, a commitment to outstanding customer service, a high sense of personal responsibility, and dedication to the American jury system. Jury Coordinators assist judges and jurors with all aspects of jury service. The Court provides the necessary training in rules and procedures.
In compliance with federal law, court rules, and procedures, the Jury Coordinator’s duties relate to the qualification, summoning, orientation, management, and payment of jurors, and include such tasks as:
- Coordinating with courtroom deputies and judges to assure that all jury panel requests are met;
- Reviewing the qualification of jurors in advance of initial report date and processing questionnaires;
- Verifying attendance and paying jurors;
- Determining the number of prospective jurors needed;
- Planning and coordinating the mailing of printed juror summonses, both in-house and with outside vendor;
- Updating the Automated Juror Information System to notify jurors of date and times of required service;
- Following up with persons who have failed to respond to questionnaires or jury summonses and taking appropriate action;
- Conducting orientation for prospective jurors;
- Responding to inquiries from prospective jurors by phone, email, and U.S. mail;
- Assisting with grand jury empanelments;
- Compiling statistical data on juror usage; and
- Performing other duties as assigned;
Required:
To be qualified for appointment to the position of Jury Coordinator, the applicant must have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent;
- One year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is progressively responsible clerical or administrative work and the application of a body of rules, regulations, directives or laws. This experience is often obtained through work in law firms, state and federal courts, real estate offices, and insurance companies;
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills;
- The ability to communicate thoughts with confidence, clarity, brevity, and tact;
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible office administrative experience requiring the routine use of computers and various computer programs such as Microsoft Office products and financial and data-based systems;
- The ability to learn specialized terminology and demonstrate an ability to apply a body of rules, regulations, directives, or laws to various situations;
- An acute attention to detail, be well-organized, and have exceptional time management skills;
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, work effectively and think logically while completing a high volume of work under time constraints; and
- A work history demonstrating dependability and flexibility.
Preferred:
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
The successful candidate must be able to bend, pull, push and lift up to 15 pounds, reach, walk, stand and/or sit for extended periods with or without accommodation.
In addition to salary, the federal government’s benefits equate to no less than 33% of an employee’s total compensation (see Total Compensation sample below). Must be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident with authorization to work in the United States who is currently seeking U.S. citizenship or intending to become a U.S. citizen immediately after meeting the eligibility requirements.
