District Judge Virginia A. Phillips Swears In Congressman Mark Takano at In-District Ceremony

On February 20, District Judge Virginia A. Phillips swore in Congressman Mark Takano and his staff at a ceremony held at the Cesar Chavez Community Center in Riverside.  Although Congressman Takano was officially sworn in as a member of the 113th Congress representing the 41st District of California on January 3 in Washington, D.C., he held this well-attended local ceremony for his constituents in the 41st District.

The ceremony was emceed by Jamil Dada, co-chair of the City of Riverside’s Workforce Advisory Panel and a member of the Executive Committee of the Riverside County Workforce Investment Board.  Attending the event were Congressman Takano’s parents, great-aunt, uncle, and brother; Riverside Mayor William “Rusty” Bailey, who also spoke; and Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff.  Mary Figueroa, who served with Congressman Takano on the Riverside Community College District Board of Trustees, spoke about the Congressman, followed by District Judge Virginia A. Phillips administering the oath to Congressman Takano and his staff.

In his remarks, Congressman Takano shared his family story and thanked those in attendance.  In thanking Judge Phillips, he noted the District Court’s heavy workload and the importance of avoiding sequestration.
