Changes to the District Court Miscellaneous Fee Schedule

Pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 1914, the Judicial Conference of the United States approved several changes to the district court miscellaneous fee schedule, effective December 1, 2023. The amended Schedule of Fees will be available on the Court’s website.
- Fee for filing any document that is not related to a pending case or proceeding is increased from $49 to $52.
- Fee for conducting a record search is increased from $32 to $34.
- Fee for certification of any document is increased from $11 to $12.
- Fee for exemplification of any document is increased from $23 to $24.
- Fee for the issuance of an apostille is increased from $47 to $50.
- Fee for reproducing and transmitting in any manner a copy of an electronic record stored outside of the Court’s electronic case management system is increased from $31 to $33.
- Fee for reproduction of an audio recording of a Court proceeding is increased from $32 to $34.
- Fee for Microfilm/Microfiche is increased from $6 to $7.
- Fee for the retrieval of one box of records from a Federal Records Center, National Archives, or other storage location removed from the place of business of the Court is increased from $64 to $70.
- Fee for retrievals involving multiple boxes is increased from $39 to $43.
- Fee for electronic retrievals is increased from $10 to $11.
- Fee for an appeal to a district judge from a judgment of conviction by a magistrate judge in a misdemeanor case is increased from $39 to $41.
- Fee for attorney admission is increased from $188 to $199 for a total fee of $281 for lawyers admitted to the California Bar for fewer than three years and $331 for lawyers admitted to the California Bar for three or more years.
- Fee for a duplicate certificate of admission or certificate of good standing is increased from $20 to $21.
- Fee for filing an action brought under Title III of the Cuban Liberty Solidarity (LIBERTAD) Act of 1996 is increased from $6,800 to $7,202.
- Administrative fee for filing a civil action, suit or proceeding in a district court is increased from $52 to $55 for a total filing fee of $405.
