Civil motions and proceedings are heard on: Mondays: 9:00 a.m. (Movants shall set their motion hearing dates on the next Monday after the required 28 day notice period per local rules of Court).
Criminal proceedings and motions are heard on: Mondays: 10:00 a.m. (or 1:30 p.m. upon court approval)
Trials generally commence on Tuesdays, at 9:00 a.m. the first day, then 8:30 a.m. on subsequent days.
If Monday is a holiday, the next motion date is Tuesday following the Monday holiday. Opposition or reply papers due on a holiday Monday shall be filed the preceding Friday. MOTION DATES ARE NOT RESERVED.
Discovery motions are to be calendared before the Magistrate Judge assigned.
Tentative rulings on motions are not issued. Telephonic and video appearances are NOT permitted.

Ex parte applications are ONLY for extraordinary relief. Sanctions may be imposed for misuse of ex parte applications. See Mission Power Engineering Co. v. Continental Casualty Co., 883 F. Supp. 488 (C.D. Cal. 1995). Ex Parte applications are normally considered on the papers and are rarely set for hearing. If the Court finds that a hearing is necessary, the parties will be notified. Opposition papers are to be filed no later than 3:00 p.m. on the first business day following service of the application. Counsel will be notified by minute order of the Court’s ruling. Counsel shall NOT contact the Courtroom Deputy Clerk regarding status.

If a calendar conflict exists wherein counsel is also scheduled to appear in another Central District (CACD) Judge's courtroom at the same time, or may be late due to an earlier appearance in another CACD Judge's courtroom, counsel shall immediately notify the Courtroom Deputy Clerk by email in advance of the hearing date.

Continuances are granted only upon a strong showing of good cause. Requests for continuances must be by motion, stipulation or application accompanied by a declaration setting forth detailed reasons for the requested continuance. The declaration shall also include whether there have been any prior requests for continuances and whether these requests were granted or denied by the Court. Stipulations extending dates set by this Court are not effective unless approved by the Court. Requests for continuance should be submitted well in advance of the requested relief. Requests for continuance not in compliance with this Order or the Local Rules of Practice for the Central District of California will be denied.

Telephone calls will NOT be returned regarding the status of submitted motions, stipulations or proposed orders. Counsel may determine the status of any submitted motion, stipulation or proposed order by accessing the docket sheet via the internet through the PACER program. Telephone calls will NOT be returned if the information sought is available on the Court’s website, www.cacd.uscourts.gov.
- Procedures for reserving electronic equipment are available on the Court’s web site under “Services”. If the equipment is not available from the Court, counsel shall request leave to bring electronic equipment into the courtroom. The request shall be made by a letter addressed to the Judge with 2 additional copies, referencing the case name and number, equipment, and vehicles transporting such equipment. Upon delivery of equipment to the Courthouse, the letter if approved shall be provided to Court Security for approval.

If you require an estimate of cost for the preparation of a transcript, contact the court reporter/recorder for the desired proceeding.
To determine the court reporter/recorder for a particular proceeding, go to the Court Reporter Schedule web page and click on View by Date. Once you've determined the correct court reporter/recorder for the desired session, click on Court Reporter Phone and Email List for contact information. - If counsel has received a "Notice to Parties of Court-Directed ADR Program" (form ADR-08) the Court will presumptively refer the case to the Court Mediation Panel or to private mediation at the time of the initial scheduling conference. See General Order 11-10 § 5.1. Counsel are directed to furnish and discuss this Notice with their clients in preparation for the parties' Fed.R.Civ.P. 26(f) conference. Counsel shall iinclude their shared or separate views regarding a preference for the Court Mediation Panel or private mediation, and when the mediation should occur, in the written report required by Fed.R.Civ.P. 26(f) and Civil. L.R. 26-1. Although not preferred, sometimes a Magistrate Judge may also be available for settlement conferences. Requests for daily trial transcripts should be made through the Court Reporter. The request should be made at least 3 weeks before trial.
- Voluminous Trial Materials & Exhibits:
- Arrangements for bringing voluminous trial materials or exhibits into the Courtroom through the Building Vehicle Loading Dock (if required) may be made through the Space & Facilities (S&F) Help Desk, at 213.894.1400.
- Before contacting S&F for a required building security pass, prior approval of delivery time must be coordinated with the Courtroom Deputy Clerk to Judge Klausner.
- Once approval from the Clerk is received, logistical delivery information must be provided to S&F with adequate notice (at least one day) to create and issue required building security pass.
- Counsel and messengers who attempt to access building parking and loading dock without required pass will be denied entry and must utilize public entrances, located on Temple Street.
